MAY 2018

I apologise for the brevity of my report for this Month. I have hardly played but the club has been the foremost thing on my mind. I have been totally immersed in addressing the requirements to enable us to submit the Development Application for the two new courts we would like to build.

The good news is that yesterday Karen and I went to the council building and spoke to the Duty Planner for the document to be checked prior to even considering submitting it. He thought we had done enough so it was accepted for submission. The best part was the fees for submission were waived because of our status as a non-profit making sporting body which is registered with council. Our application was accepted and we now have a DA number.

I have to thank Karen for her help last week. Two brains are often better than one and between us we were able to sort out and check and double check the most important factor…the environmental effects of building these courts. We told them grass was a winner over concrete tennis courts any day.

We now have to wait to see what the result will be but I’m confident we will have the required permission in our hands in the next few weeks then the fun can begin.

Nicks family were very appreciative of the wake and later the spreading of Nick’s ashes in the club gardens, a plaque has been placed on the tree in the garden where the ashes were spread.

Thank you to Paul, Robyne, Marie, Don, Ralph, Norma and Brian for their help with the Gerroa probus club all present had a good day.

The Southern Highlands have agreed to David Hanbidge suggestion that we give them a day

of coaching. David and I will go to SHCC on Saturday May 19th the southern Highlands club will use the day as a fund raiser.

I have four members of U3A coming for lessons on Friday at 1pm.

I have trawled through the CNSW links for other clubs to look at the membership fees paid at other clubs and printed a copy of all the ones I could find, this is available for anyone to have a look at. Some clubs put their fees on their web pages and others do not.

I must apologise to our Div 3 pennant team and Glyn and John who came to play/ Referee at 10am last Friday only to find that I had the wrong time and we now must reschedule our

last match against Wollongong. This match will be played on Friday 11th May at 10am

In The div 3 pennants Wollongong, Jamberoo and Nowra have all won 3 matches and the final result depends on Nowra beating Wollongong on Friday and Canberra beating Jamberoo for Nowra to make it to the semi-finals at Tempe.

Div 2 have battled on bravely under difficult circumstances with one match to play at Jamberoo on the 18th May

Secretary Snippets

Welcome to Secretary Snippets,
I am happy to report that most of our sickies are now on the mend, and hope that they will all be back on the lawn soon. Bob is now without his wheelchair, but still needs the aid of a walker.
Douglas is starting to see a lot clearer – so we had better watch out. (sorry about the name Doug).
Shirley still has to wear her boot for a while longer.
Keith is taking things a bit quieter for the moment.
Brenton is in recovery mode after his fall.
Ralph had a bout of doggie allergy that has laid him low for a bit.
Clyde is making good progress after his operation. (Had a chat with Clyde and Betty today).
Brian is well and truly back with us after his surgery.
Great to see Ann playing again after her health issues.
Terry is back playing after his illness.
John Deeves has had day surgery on his wrist.
Nick’s ashes have been scattered in the garden.
The farewell for Phil and Val Pickard was well attended, we wish them well with their relocation, and thank
them for their contribution to the club.
If I have missed anyone, I hope you are on the mend as well.
Other points of interest are: – Updates of Club Notices – please check out the Notice Board.
A great response from members who responded to my request for birth dates, these have now been added to the clubs records.
The Come & Try leaflet drop coming up soon is asking for members to distribute them in their areas. More on this later. It was agreed that the notice boards needed to be revamped, Margaret and myself to organize.
For those who have trouble accessing the croquet website, try going to Google and enter Nowra Croquet Club, let Bob or myself know if you still have difficulties. Bob is in the process of updating the website and would like someone with some knowledge to assist him.
Good news it was decided that there would be no increase in the Membership Fees for 2018-2019.

Croquet on everyone and keep well. Cheers for now. Norma.
